Carl is an International award winning bird taxidermist and an established sculptor based in North Yorkshire, England, UK.

SCULPTING
Producing hand carved wooden sculptures -from life size beautiful pieces, in different timbers for internal or external display – to small mixed medium carvings.

Sculpting in different clays, Carl moulds and casts all his own work in a wide range of resins and pewter. Sculptures and carving vary from human, equestrian, medieval and gothic casting.

A qualified bird specialist with work in small private collections to large museum around the world, Carl’s bird taxidermy shows breathtaking birds with excellent composition and an amazing all over accuracy for detail.

BIRD TAXIDERMY: THE BASIC MANUAL
Being one of the leading bird taxidermist in the UK, Carl published the well received – ‘Bird Taxidermy: The Basic Manual’, which has sold word wide and is one of a few modern bird taxidermy books available.

The book, with easy to follow instructions and illustrated contains over 420 colour photos. I also lists all the necessary tools and materials you will need to become a bird taxidermist.

  • Self employed artist for over twenty years
  • Pursuing the art of taxidermy I made my name specialising in birds
  • Qualified as a bird specialist in 2002 with the UK guild of taxidermist.
  • Competed at the World Taxidermy Show in America 2003 winning Best Professional Bird. Meeting and been inspired by the best taxidermists in the world
  • Competing again in 2005 to win once again Best Professional Bird & Best competitors award
    Having a successful career and being proud of supplying taxidermy to the National History Museum of California. Also having specimens in the greatest collections throughout Europe
  • In 2008 I also started doing special effects for the film industry and some of the UK’s top advertising agencies.
  • 2008 was also my first big demonstration and display of my work at the Baltic Centre in Gateshead in the couples exhibition being paired with an embalmer gave the public a very interesting exhibition
  • Working over several years to process five recreation dodo’s ending this project with the Great Dodo Exhibition at Kendal Museum in Cumbria. With the help of Kendal Museum the exhibition had three of the leading dodo experts from around the world gave National recognition to the Dodo recreations and these are now highly collectable and displayed worldwide
  • 2012 appearing on Chanel 4 entertainment program Four Rooms with a cased Andean Condor this got different people talking about my work from the local papers to Radio One
  • 2013 I wrote one of the top Bird Taxidermy manuals distributed throughout the World selling over 6000 copies inspiring both young and old taxidermists worldwide
  • With the taxidermy and moulding and casting experience I have worked alongside some of the greatest British artists.
  • 2016 I started working with other mediums such as soft alloys, wood & resin. Producing life size equestrian carvings and Hyper realistic work
  • 2023 Working today with all the experience I have gathered over the years from the different industries and being inspired by my fellow artist, I now work to create the high quality taxidermy and sculpture that is highly collectable world wide thanks to Tennants Auctioneers of Leyburn.
